hey y'all :)
current status = overwhlemingly, absolutely blessed.
This morning was church! I left my nicer shoes at home on accident so my sweet sandals had to be part of my church attire :/. Tomorrow, however, I'm off to their Payless for some more appropriate shoes. Ha. Fide said I didn't need to worry today because we could sit in the back so I wouldn't be spotted. Too bad I'm a chelita (blonde, white, and American girl) and everyone seems to notice that without having to look too hard. That seems to be becoming my nickname around here with the people on the streets. Sweet.
So we went to church via "bus" which is more like a van. And we got out at the park and walked about a block to church. This morning they had the jovens (young peeps) conducting the service since they were honoring mothers. There was a lot of praise music with a huge band. By huge I mean like a 10-15 person band. And they were all youth. MAN CAN THEY PLAY. Seriously, so good. I loved all the clapping and singing. I've realized how self conscience we can be when we sing back at home and how the people here just love singing and aren't embarrassed if they aren't the best singers. Everyone just loves doing it! Then, Ro-bear (Roberto) was in the drama that was hilarious. At the end of the service a Mariachi band came in and played. So culturally rich. We took some pictures so I'll put them up! This little boy BELTED it. Whew, craziness. After church, we came back to the house and had pizza. Ha. I think the funniest part about this was that I sat next to Michael. He's like one maybe? He's Big Rafi's youngest kid. There's two things that he can do. One, walk in the most hap-hazardous fashion looking like he's about to fall over all the time. And two, say the word "Mira" over and over while perched over "una mosca" (any bug he can find) trying to get people to look. oh, and he can survive his brother and sister's extreme "taking care of Michael" actions such as slinging him around, dropping him in random places, shaking him as if to get a coin out of his pocket. Gosh, all he did through the whole lunch was scream "mira" (which means "look!") at every single bug he saw, which was a LOT, and refuse to eat his pizza. HA.
After lunch, we let his older sister Ashley, who's like 8, make bogus rules while we played Uno. I think Spenc got frustrated because at one point he just put all his cards down and was like, YOU'RE CHEATING. ha, too bad she didn't understand English or call her rules cheating. Too bad I cleaned house all three times we played. Ha, she got UPset.
Then, Fide, Ro-bear, Big Rafi, Spenc, and I went to the hospital to take care packages, beanie babies, shirts, and lots of other stuff. We spent about 2 hours there visiting people and handing everything out.
When we came back we raced to get our clothes off the line before the downpour. We were almost done and...MONSOON. whew, we got them though.
Then Spenc when for a Siesta :). I went out to the garden and just sang and sang to the Lord. It was such an amazing time with my Heavenly father. Gosh, I just felt like I could hear Him singing over me. The Lord has been revealing so much of His heart to me. My heart was completely broken for this city today. I realized how much more I want to intercede and pray over them. Just as we sing "Greater things have yet to come" over Snellville or wherever, I want to be singing that over this city. And I know the Lord hears those prayers.
Dinner was turkey and fried plantains (Spenc and I cooked those!). And some Jello and ice-cream for dessert. Excellent.
OH! And Spenc and I got to talk to Grandma and Grandpa Bone on Skype. Yay :)
Gosh y'all I am sorry those posts are so long but so much happens, I don't know what to cut out.
But we love y'all so much.
Besos!!

Feliz el dia de las Madres! Yep, today was Mothers Day here in Nicaragua. Precious I know. Fide received more gifts from people than I usually receive at Christmas, ha. But I think it is so cool to see how family takes such a precedence here in Nica. So this morning, I actually woke up before Morgan. It seems like it's become a race to see who can get to the kitchen first. We don't beat Fide and Omar though, seeing they wake up at 4. We had a devotion this morning with Fide and Omar from primero timoteo capitulo cuatro. It was so cool to hear their thoughts on young people being leaders.
After breakfast, we helped Roberto get the rooms ready for next weekend. Morgan painted the final touches on the guy's room, while I cleaned the windows in another one of the bedrooms. Mom you will have to tell Nanny that I cleaned windows and screens today! Unlike Nanny though, we don't clean ours weekly. We also had to paint the walls between two of the rooms. Quite an experience seeing that I was painting the ceiling, while Morgan was right under me painting. Roberto had to come and finish the ceiling, seeing that "yo soy bajo/I am short." Our lunch was like chicken stew, but better, and rice. OH, and the funniest part of the day. We were sitting at the kitchen table, Morgan and I, Fide, Roberto, and Tanya, talking about weird Spanish and English words. Well apparently there is a word here in Nicaragua, called "chunche" that means a "whatchamacallit" in English. And you can use chunche for anything. Well, Fide got up from the table to put her plate away, and Morgan called her a chunchadora, which apparently means prostitute. Fide said "Oy" and then they all started laughing. Naturally, we had no idea what was going on until they told us, but we laughed for probably five minutes straight. I didn't think Fide was going to recover from laughing. haha.
After lunch, we were supposed to go to the hospital to hand out gifts to mother's in the women's ward, but Big Rafe never came and picked us up. So Roberto decided to take us to their youth service at his church. On the way there though, we stopped by his house and got to meet his roommate. Roberto played his guitar for a while and we sang along. Good times at his place. Eventually we made it to the church for the service, and sadly, I only understood about 3 words from the whole message. I think Morgan understood more because she kept nodding her head. In the closing prayer, Roberto's roommate thanked the Lord for "Morgan and the dude with her..." Ha. I think he thought I didn't understand him, but I did. Too funny. Tonight, we were able to have another LEGIT conversation with Fide. She is so wise, and has so much to say to encourage me personally in my faith. I really feel like we are here for her as well though, because she said she feels "comfortable and familiar" around us.
Well I am going to get in bed! We are heading to church in the morning, and then on to the hospital to hand out the gifts. Thank yall for your prayers. It is honestly helping so much.

Pictures!
Bienvenidos al Blog.
Today was another eventful day in Matagalpa.
It began with pancakes, la pina deliciosa, and juice. This morning was quite an experience. The baseboard that we started to paint yesterday still had to be painted so we decided to try and mix some colors together to make an emerald green to match the green tile floor in the room. Well, disaster struck soon after this task commenced. We put like a gallon and a half of paint in this plastic container and mixed in other colors to try to get it to what we wanted. The problem here was that the paint was oil based. No problem right? ha. The little fact we didn't realize was the oil based paint would devour the plastic container and flood the floor with a nasty teal color. Sweet deal. WHOOPS! We had everyone running everywhere throwing rages and dunking them in water and sending them to the Jefe (Fide at this point). Whew, just another day in the life of a intern at Puentes de Esperanza. We all were laughing and having so much fun. Another thing about oil based paint is that it doesn't come off skin with water, you have to use diluyente...best part of this story is that we were out of el diluyente. As I type this now, my hands look like smurf hands because I couldn't get all the paint off. Hate to say it mom but the Magic Jack is speckled with teal paint. At least it still works though right? Fide and I got together and mixed up some new paint to a really pretty emerald green and off we went to painting.
Lunch was SO GOOD.
Fide cooked pasta with red and green peppers, sour cream, and lots of spices. I definitely ate my fill! And we ate platanos fritos to go with it...those were the equivalent to italian bread rolls for the meal. Loved them.
We sat at the table awhile trying to remember how to sing some old songs from choir and had the computer on waiting impatiently for our dear Rachel to get on Skype...sad day. Ha, we love you Rae baby :) and miss you a lot! and LUCY!
After lunch we went to work cleaning the rooms and moving beds around.
Then this guy from the states who's a professor of Criminal Justice was in town so he came by with Don Omarcito. We sat out on the patio for a good while talking with him about all his adventures. He's lived all around the world and is just traveling through different cities and working on lots of different things.
Fide made us grilled cheese again for dinner since we talked for so long with the professor. But they were excellent. She is such a good cook. I am so grateful for her and everyone here because they have made us feel so welcomed.
We talked after dinner with Fide and Don Omar about Spanish and English and the differences. It's awesome to be learning so much without being in a classroom. It's been less than a week and I feel like we are a family here.
Now Spenc and I just ate some Nica Oreos and we're just kickin' it in the kitchen.
I hope y'all are enjoying the Blog. We have so much fun at the end of the day writing out and remembering all the crazy things that went down.
We definitely feel y'alls prayers too. It's amazing how much joy the Lord has poured onto us and how much affirmation we feel about being here in Matagalpa.
Love you all so much!

Another fun filled day is coming to a close, as I sit here in kitchen by myself, as Morgan trots off to bed. Whoo, it has been a long but ENJOYABLE day. We started off this morning a little different, with a devotion including everyone working in the house. The past couple of days, Morgan, Fide, and I have been having legit conversations about certain passages in the Bible. Today, everyone gathered around the kitchen table, and we all examined a chapter in Proverbs together. All 6 of us gave input! It was incredible just to see how the Father is teaching us. After breakfast, we headed off to La Perla to give away the uniforms, in hopes that the teacher wouldn't cancel classes. We went inside the schoolhouse of about 45 kids and divided up the white polo shirts to give each of them. They were grinning ear to ear! We brought them all outside after they put on their shirts and got them situated for a picture. Organizing them from shortest to tallest reminded me of the good ole yearbook days. While they were outside, we also handed out bookbags (mochillas), crayons, pencils, and candy to them. Big Rafe told us the intention of them getting uniforms was to reward the children who were coming to school, but it was kind of hard to surprise them since they knew we were coming. After we handed out all of the "goodies" they took us inside the schoolhouse for a dance. A couple of the girls had on their native dresses and they performed a dance for us. Fide joined in, and Big Rafe threw me into the group as well. I just watched one of the little boys dancing and tried to emulate him. Naturally Morgan eventually made her way into the circle as well. Once the dancing was done, and everyone got to see themselves on the camera, we headed back to the truck to go down the dirt road to La Escalera. Big Rafe had to give a little boy the soccer ball he had promised him. The little boy had surgery on the back of his leg a few weeks ago by a medical team that came to La Escalera. The surgery was performed right in the cafeteria we laid the foundation for. You guessed it! I am soo pumped for the medical mission team to get here in a couple of weeks. I hope I get to "scrub in" on a surgery! We headed back to Matagalpa and enjoyed a lunch of chicken, rice, a vegetable that looked like a squash mixed with a potatoe, and cucumber/tomatoe salad. After stuffing our faces, we sat around in the kitchen and talked with Roberto and Tanya as they enjoyed their daily "lunch" coffee. We had a mini English lesson with both of them, and struggled through learning how to say refridgerator in Spanish. It was hilarious. All four of us were basically on the floor laughing as Morgan and I tried to pronounce it correctly. We then followed el hefe/the boss, Roberto, to the guys room (the room we stayed in last year) to finish painting. Morgan and I started painting the base an ugly green color, begging Rober(my nickname for him) to find a better green, but nothing could be found. We were over half way done when Fide came up to check on us and gagged when she noticed the green. She insisted that we wait until tomorrow to paint with another green color. Ha, it was quite funny. Roberto then headed off to his night classes as Morgan and I prepared for the big board meeting at 6. Isabelle and Henry, the two board members we didn't know, were really sweet. Isabelle is a hardware store owner, and Henry is in charge of a bunch of the buses in Matagalpa. Omar Jr. and Big Rafe both brought their wives and children to the dinner as well. They stuck to us like glue. By the end of the night we were laughing and playing "Simone dice..." with all five of the kids. I swear it seemed like I was chasing around my own little cousins. I could understand the kids better than the adults because they used easy words, haha. Once we said our goodbyes, with hugs thrown in as well, we helped Fide clean up. I tried to get you guys some pictures up on the blog, but they wouldn't upload from my camera. Nothing is ever easy for me when it comes to technology, but hopefully pictures will be coming soon! Keep praying that a community will continue to be built here at the mission house, and for the hearts of the children and the teachers to be softened. I am excited to be working in the schools soon, but I just want to make sure that they see the light of Christ in our lives, and instead of learning English, that they will long to know the Lord on an intimate level. Speaking of intimacy, I am trying to grow in intimacy with the Father so be praying for me. I have been learning a lot for myself about intimacy with him, but now is the time to really apply it to my life. Well I love you all, and I am sorry for rambling for so long. Maybe you got something from it :)

Ay, hoy fue fenomenal!
Wow, three days down and I still have to remind myself that I'm here and get to enjoy the Lord's presence so far away from home. It's starting to feel like home here, too. This morning I got up and came to the kitchen for the grand nica coffee. Again, like spenc said in the last post, he somehow knew I was up and came trouncing in. We sat and had breakfast with Fide and then we talked about the Lord and a passage in Luke for a good while. Everyone went around and said what they felt the Lord was teaching their heart. Even Roberto came in as we were talking and brought a new revelation to the table. After breakfast we went with Fide, Big Rafi, and Roberto to take new school shirts to a town called La Pearla (I think that's how you spell it?) which was right past La Escalera for everyone who's been there before. Once we got there, we talked to the teacher and she had just not felt like teacing so she cancelled school for the day. crazy. The kids all come from no telling how far away everyday and she just cancels school? :( so we couldn't give them their shirts and see them, but tomorrow maybe we will go again. We went over to La Escalera also to see the kids. That was awesome. The cafeteria is pretty much done and it looks so good thanks to all the teams that worked on it including us. They told us that a medical team recently performed a surgery in the room for storing the food and showed us some pictures of it. Really cool. We came back here and had pork chops with potatoes for lunch. Roberto was our Jefe (boss) again today and we went to work painting another room while it was absolutely monsoon-ing right outside the open windows (all the windows are always open by the way, fresh air and natural light fill the house. so wonderful.) Then we cleaned up and we both took siestas! Que bueno no? When we woke up we ate some dinner and spent a long while out on the patio by the garden talking with Omar and Fide about anything and everything. We were all talking and laughing and having a good time. It was so obvious how much passion and devotion that they had for the Lord and for serving His people. Omar is going to teach us all about the history of Nicaragua and I told them Josh would love to sit down and hear all of it so let him know that I have a history discussion waiting for him when we comes. So tell him to do his research :). Now Spenc and I are just sitting at the kitchen table reading, talking about different things the Lord is teaching us and soaking up all the bendiciones (blessings) that the Lord is pouring into us. But now, I think it's time for bed. ha, only 9:20 here but I'm exhausted.

hola chicos y chickas! Another crazy day in Nica and boy are we blessed/tired/excited. This morning I woke up to find Morgan in the kitchen. It seems these past couple of days I have woken up right after her. I keep telling her that I smell her presence. We talked for a while and then Fide came in and offered to make a four course meal for breakfast, but we made things easy and just chowed down on some cereal. We got to talk to Big Rafe for a while this morning before he left for Managua. It was so cool because he told us how the Lord has directed everything these past couple of years at the mission house here in Matagalpa. Such encouraging stories! Opportunities have opened up and the only one to give the credit is the Father. It reminded both of us of how we made it to Nica. Doors just completely opened up for us. Big Rafe sent us on a walk to the city again this morning with Roberto. He said he wants us to get acquainted with the city. He said it was easy with only two main streets, but I still got confused. Morgan and I thought Roberto was going to take us to a coffee shop, and we thought it was weird when when had to sign in at the front. We quickly realized no coffee was being served and it was instead just a coffee museum. Muy interesante! He also took us to "Monkey Park" where they had, you guessed it, monkeys. We pushed a mango close to the chain link cage and watched one of the monkeys pick it up with his tail. Exciting I know. Don't worry Dad, I didn't touch them. The stroll through the city ended up being a two hour stretch after an ice cream break and a stop to get some tape. After a HUGE lunch of steak, rice, mashed potatoes, and gravy (0f which I had thirds, including the tail end of Morgan's) we finished the final touches of paint in my room. They paint the bottom of the walls a darker color than the rest so when you mop you can't see the dirt. Clever, I know. So my room is now yellow, accented with a red "baseboard." We ate an early dinner/snack of PBJ's at 5 before we went to school with Roberto. I know, I said it, school. We went to Roberto's classes from 6-9. The university is in the middle of the city, with over 1000 students. His first class was similar to economics and his second class was math for finances. It seemed tough but we didn't know any of the terminology. Roberto walked us back in the dark to the house, and we sang in the street on the way back. Roberto practiced his English while I sang in Spanish, and Morgan did a mixture of both! Fide had more food waiting for us including sausages, rice and beans, and pico de gallo. I had seconds naturally. Yep Mom, I'm eating good. We've had such a great time developing relationships with the people here. Fide treats Morgan and me like her children kissing us before we go to bed and when we wake up. We are quickly becoming best friends with Roberto. It is a race to see who will learn the other language quickest. I think he is beating me, but I will catch up, ha. Well I love you all, but it is time for bed. Who knows what tomorrow has in store for us!

first of all, we made it! the plane landed in the middle of a serious torrential downpour. there were two other groups going to Nicaragua on the same plane and we were hoping that they were coming with us to Puentes de Esperanza but no such luck. we got to the team house at like 11:30 after a two hour ride to Matagalpa :) (which is like 1:30 our time. we were exhausted but so excited to be here!)
this morning we woke up and they told us that this week is just to rest up and help out around the house but while we're here we're going to be going around to different seminars at the schools and also working with special needs kids at a pilot school that specializes in teaching to handicap children. we are pumped!
today, i woke up at like 6, enjoyed a cool shower and sat with Fidelina (Fide) and drinking some amazing Nicaraguan coffee. i see why you liked it so much now dad. ha. we sat and talked and spenc got up a little later and we all sat in the kitchen and talked and prayed over lots of different things. there's something about hearing prayers in spanish that brings so much joy to my heart.
Fide took us into town and we met some of her family at their houses taking different things to them and went to el mercado to get some food!
came back here, and we helped roberto paint the room that spenc is staying in. we had a blast with him as our "boss". lunch was chicken and rice, so good! mom i am eating and really enjoying it so no te preocupes!
then, we were orderd (and happily agreed) to taking a SIESTA, ha nap. it's crazy how tierd we are from the traveling and all.
then roberto, spenc, and i sat around out by the garden in rocking chairs while roberto played the guitar and we all sang. seriously for like an hour or longer. the three of us then took a walk through Matagapla and roberto took us up this HUGE hill (nothing like what athens has) and then a huge staircase at the top. oh my.
we came back to the house and (oh by the way we haven't had electricity since like 4 this morning) we ate grilled cheese sandwhiches with orange juice for dinner by candlelight. we just got power back like 20 minutes ago. awesome, blog here i come.
it's really weird writing this in english when i've been speaking as much spanish as possible today which is almost the whole time! i'm pumped about speaking so much spanish and spenc has already learned so much in just one day. he may come back fluent too, who knows!? :)
so now spenc and i are just sitting here writing e-mails and what not after an awesome day. we can't wait for what is coming tomorrow. and don't worry mom, i'm about to "magic jack" you :).
sorry this post was so long, they probably won't be this thorough in the future.
Dios les bendiga.

came back here, and we helped roberto paint the room that spenc is staying in. we had a blast with him as our "boss". lunch was chicken and rice, so good! mom i am eating and really enjoying it so no te preocupes!
then, we were orderd (and happily agreed) to taking a SIESTA, ha nap. it's crazy how tierd we are from the traveling and all.
then roberto, spenc, and i sat around out by the garden in rocking chairs while roberto played the guitar and we all sang. seriously for like an hour or longer. the three of us then took a walk through Matagapla and roberto took us up this HUGE hill (nothing like what athens has) and then a huge staircase at the top. oh my.
we came back to the house and (oh by the way we haven't had electricity since like 4 this morning) we ate grilled cheese sandwhiches with orange juice for dinner by candlelight. we just got power back like 20 minutes ago. awesome, blog here i come.
it's really weird writing this in english when i've been speaking as much spanish as possible today which is almost the whole time! i'm pumped about speaking so much spanish and spenc has already learned so much in just one day. he may come back fluent too, who knows!? :)
so now spenc and i are just sitting here writing e-mails and what not after an awesome day. we can't wait for what is coming tomorrow. and don't worry mom, i'm about to "magic jack" you :).
sorry this post was so long, they probably won't be this thorough in the future.
Dios les bendiga.
M.
